Thread: Stay in shape for the holidays!

  1. #1

Default Stay in shape for the holidays!

We are doing a new contest starting in November for whoever is interested! Congratz to those who competed in the "Summer Shape Up" contest, your dedication and hard work alone are worthy of praise...regardless of how many votes you received.

    Goals:
As was pointed out in the summer shape up, not everyone has the same goals. I think it's safe to say, however, most people on fitnessboard wish to gain muscle, lose fat or the ever-elusive "both at the same time". So again we will keep the criteria fairly vague and let each person state their specific goals. Obviously getting fatter and losing muscle will probably not take home the title! Being that this contest will go thru the holidays there may be a slight handicap with various temptations but that just adds a unique dimension and makes things interesting right?

    Contest dates:
The contest will start November 1 and end January 31th (unless we revise it later).

    How to enter:
To enter the contest, simply post in this thread, then post your "before" pictures in this thread by Nov 1, 2009.

    The rules:
You must post "before" pictures by Nov 1, 2009 to be in the contest.
Midpoint pictures are encouraged but not required, and should be posted by the third week of december. "After" pictures must be posted up by Feb 3, 2009.
The pictures should be full body photos. Try to include: relaxed front, flexed front, relaxed back, and relaxed side shots. Other pictures are up to your discretion. The pictures should show as much of your physique as possible in order to be able to show changes. Try to make the before and after pictures as similar as possible - for example if you are purposely pushing out your stomach to look more out of shape in your first pictures, you should do the same in your after pictures as well
Measurements can be added along with your photos to back up your transformation, but are not required.
During the contest it is recommended that you keep a journal of your progress for motivation.
During the contest "anything goes" ... so if you want to stack up on ephedra go for it, or if you want to use DNP - that is your choice. Some people are more comfortable with a different level of risk than others, and that is fine. Ideally we would suggest staying with only OTC supplemements just for safety sake. The board doesn't condone or suggest using illegal means to lose weight.
This contest is open to all members of Fitnessboard.net regardless of how long they have been a member. All staff members and previous contest winners may enter the contest.

    Judging:
At the end of the contest all before and after photos will be posted up in a new thread for the members of the board to vote for a winner. If there is a tie, a second vote will be held to find a clear winner. If the second vote results in a tie between 2 winners, the prize will be split between the 2 winners. If the second vote results in a tie between 3 winners, there will be a third vote and so on...

    Pending Details:
More details to follow as they become available....

Anyone interested in tips, guidance or just a second opinion in the areas of diet/training is welcome to ask. It would probably be best if you start your own thread and post questions there so anyone can offer advice freely, but you are also welcome to message me f you prefer. I'm sure others on the forum are more than willing to offer advice...not mentioning any names but I'm sure they'll speak up themselves if so inclined.

This may be unorthodox and perhaps the inappropriate venue for this (if so I will move them to another thread), but in the interest of getting things rolling I'm posting my own progress pics from July and August of this year. Due to time discrepancies I didn't end up posting in the summer shape up so I'll put them here as a warning of what NOT to do....and no matter how the contest goes for you you can always say "well at least I did better than Jay"!

Oh one last thing. I'll be on the road all next week but will check in when I can, just FYI.

I'll particiapte as best I can. I don't need to lose fat and I certainly do not want to gain muscle. However, it's critical for me to maintain my current physique. I have been hired for a modeing job long term, and I was hired based on meeting their standards for measurements, and I have to fit a into a standard uniform for a couple of shoots. I'm going to be working that job, personal training part time, and working at LL Bean 30 hours a week until Christmas. I start marathon training December 1st and I will let NOTHING mess that up.

    So my goals are:

    -Keep my current physique
-Not miss any of my runs once I start marathon training
-Through Nov my goal for my running will be loose. I have 5 weeks "off" after next week's race where I am going to take it easy, but ge in enough mileage so starting marathon training won't kill me.

This will all be challenging while working God knows how many hours a week.

I'm in too. This leaves me with plenty of time to gorge myself on Halloween candy, ramp up my metabolism and smoke you guys next round! In it to win it this time...Turkey day and Xmas don't phase me.

This is me now. If I am successful I will look the same (no gain OR loss), and I won't miss any runs.

Cool Cathy, looking buff btw. I'll be back to hitting the weights hard now that my diet phase is over so I guess my goal will be to gain ~10 lbs in the next 3 months without gaining too much fat.

Lookin great Sarah, I'd be happy with a goal of maintaining if I looked like that - if I was a girl. I think this one will be as much about maintaining as anything, especially with halloween, thanksgiving and christmas coming....not to mention new years. Too many excuses to gorge on food and drink!
