So, A little about me, and my experiences with physical fitness. I was a fat kid most of my life. When I was 19 I got sick of wearing shirts to the beach and I decided to do something about it. So, over one summer I lost 50 lbs by eating right and walking every day. It's been six years and I've kept the fat off, and gained 10 lbs of muscle, most of that from my short stint as a wild-land firefighter. When I turned 25 I sort of panicked. I dug up my old fire gear and went hiking in the desert for a week to get my head straight. One of the things that occurred to me while I was out there is that I should really be in much better shape. Which has brought me here.

I just started my fourth week of "Insanity", I've hit almost every workout (I missed a couple of days in week one when I had some family visiting, I put myself back on schedule by doing double workout days) and I've seen great results, doubling my reps in almost every benchmark exercise. I attribute this to:
1) Hard work, duh.
2) Proper nutrition, besides the healthy, balanced diet I have maintained for the last six years I have added a two scoop of muscle milk, two banana, and two tablespoon peanut butter shake after every workout
3) Creatine, This stuff is great, I take it about an hour before I workout and it has virtually eliminated all muscle soreness.

Which brings me to the second part of my first post. Things have been going great, I'm making incredibly fast gains, my stamina is way up, but the voice of doubt is getting louder every day I get closer to phase two. (Insanity is split in to two, four week phases, divided by a recovery week, for those of you not in the know) and unlike the beginning where I would ask "why am I doing this to myself?" after, towards the end, or sometimes in the middle of my workout; I find myself asking this question in the first five minutes, and sometimes before I even start. I am aware that fear of exercise is a symptom of over-training, but I have none of the other symptoms, so I am ruling this out.

So, In the form of a question, "What is it you guys do to maintain motivation when the changes in the mirror aren't enough?"

Hey everyone,

I know that many people prepare their food for several days or a week at a time to make their lives a little easier...my question is what is the best way to do this? I am one who is willing to admit that I often get lazy and dont feel like making myself something different to eat so will eat the stuff that hubby and kids are eating which I know is TERRIBLE for me to be doing!!! So, I know that if I take a day like one of my days off and prepare some food to have ready then I will do much better! Any and all advice on the matter is appreciated :)

Hey everyone!!! I didnt really know where to say hey so I figure here is a good place...I am back once again. I have been in a very dark place and a lot of things have gone wrong in my life with my family, my children, my health...things physically and personally that I will possibly share slowly but I would really like to not dwell on them and move forward with my life because I really need to wrap up some of the chapters in my life, while also continuing some and starting some new ones!!! But, I have missed you all terribly and have often thought of several of you and wondered how you are doing. I have added my fitnessboard back to my home page tabs so that I can check in daily with you all! Hope everyone is great!!! :D

Hey all.

Things haven't gone so well lately and I've been stagnating. Time management issues have gotten worse along with declining energy. Lost some of my strength PCT. Overtraining, undereating and stress may have partly been to blame..I admittedly may have been drunk with power and enhanced recovery and overdid training PCT. Oh well, what's done is done now so moving on.

My current schedule is and will continue to be twice a week as this is all I can really manage right now with work, a baby and endless family obligations.

I'll basically be doing a 5/3/1 deal but not exactly thus I'm NOT doing 5/3/1.

So here's my basic schedule:

MONDAY
Declines (5/3/1), 10x5 w/ 64% max (russian bear concept 5's instead of 10's here)
Rows (5/3/1), 10x5
Back Squat (5/3/1), 10x5
Laterals and Calves DC-style

THURSDAY
Military Press (5/3/1), Bradford Press 10x5
Chinups (5/3/1), 10x5
Deadlifts (5/3/1), 10x5
Reverse-Grip Bench (5/3/1), no volume sets
Calves DC-style

That's it. No direct biceps work...doing actual chinups with a medium-close grip to hit biceps hard and added RGBP for a little extra tricep work. Everything else is pretty well covered. I'll post my first week's workout later.

So a couple weeks ago on a Monday I came down with a screaming high fever at the end of my work day. I went home and passed out. I woke up, could barely move, my head was pounding, every muscle was weak, and my fever was 103/4. Went to the ER and they took a throat culture. I had strep AND tonsillitis...double whammy. Got a script for Amoxicillin 850m and 800m Ibuprofen. I was in bed from Monday to Saturday. I returned to work that Monday, but noticed little red itchy dots on my arms...I thought maybe I was allergic to something and ignored it. Tuesday it was spreading. Now I am covered in red itchy dots all over my body.

I've never had a problem with either drug before, but I can't think of anything else it could be from. I didn't get bit by anything, I don't have pets so it's not flea bites, I'm STD/V free, haven't changed detergents or dryer sheets, and I had chicken pox as a kid. Went back to my doc for a follow up and he said it's a possible reaction to the meds so he gave me prednisone to try and clear it up. It's day 2 of prednisone and nothing has changed.

I'm considering changing docs because he's too quick to say "I don't know, here try these meds" instead of helping me find out first...he didn't even really look at the rash. I'm frustrated and just want to get rid of this.

Ever since I have changed up my diet, I have noticed that it doesn't take much for me to get extremely angry. I wasn't eating poorly before, but I would definitely gorge myself at least once per week on greasy, fatty foods. Now, I've gone back to a 40/40/20 setup and been religious about it for the past week and half. I've done this diet (well not this particular one, but one very similar) before and it never seemed to affect me like this. I'm constantly eating and never hungry, but it just feels like I'm always on the verge of being angry. Prior to this diet, that would usually be a sign of low blood sugar and that I needed to eat. Do you think that I should just give it another week or two to see if my blood chemistry starts to "normalize"? I would be grateful for any feedback.

Sample:
Breakfast
4 egg white/1 egg omelet with 6 oz chicken and 1 oz low fat cheese
12 oz skim milk

Snack
Clif Builders protein bar

Lunch
Chef salad with 6 oz lean protein (chicken or turkey) and 1 oz low fat cheese
1/4 cantaloupe
3 oz green vegetable (broccoli or green beans)

Snack
30 pistachios

After workout shake
P90x recovery shake

Dinner
Beef and broccoli stir fry with tofu noodles (6 oz protein)

If your weekly routine doesn’t include a leg day, you’re a gym idiot.
If you sacrifice form for weight, you’re a gym idiot.
If you don’t re-rack weights, you’re a gym idiot.
If you block access to free weights because you need to lift 6 inches in front of the rack, you’re a gym idiot.
If you think you can crunch your way to a six pack, you’re a gym idiot.
... If you walk around puffing out your invisible lats, you’re a gym idiot.
If you think whey or creatine are steroids, you’re a gym idiot.
If you haven’t made progress in months and haven’t changed anything, you’re a gym idiot.
If you think the squat rack is an acceptable place to do 65lb barbell curls, you’re a gym idiot.
If you talk more than you lift, you’re a gym idiot.
If you spend more time creepily eye-****ing the women in the yoga class than lifting, you’re a gym idiot.
If you bounce the barbell off your chest while bench pressing, you’re a gym idiot.
If you let your balls touch the tile in the steam room, you’re a gym idiot.
If you stand in front of my bench in the middle of my set, you’re a gym idiot.
If you shadowbox yourself in the mirror after every set, you’re a gym idiot.
If you leave 10 plates on the leg press, you’re a gym idiot.
If you don’t get parallel when you squat, you’re a gym idiot.
If you think focusing on nutrition is optional, you’re a gym idiot.
If you’re singing/rapping aloud to whatever you’re listening to, you’re a gym idiot.
If you squat 400 but only have a 5 inch range of motion, you’re a gym idiot.
If you wear a polo shirt and jeans during your workout, you’re a gym idiot.
If you can complete a set of lat pulldowns in under 5 seconds, you’re a gym idiot.
If you use wrist straps for 25lb. dumbbell curls, you’re an idiot.
If you leave salty ball sweat on the equipment, you’re a gym idiot.
If you put cologne on in the locker room before your workout, you’re a gym idiot.

i'm obese and have been working out to a incline program on my ifit treadmill. It's bascially interval training while walking on incline. of a 30 minute workout, 8 minutes is cool down and warm up of walking pretty much flat. And than it changes inclines every minute afterwards till you reach the last the cool down time. i sometimes do two 30 minute sessions a day.

My calfs feel fine now but a few weeks ago they felt funny. Do you think it's too much walking on incline and that maybe i should try to make sure to get half my time of working out walking flat? My calfs even if i hadn't been working out that day, i felt kind of like i would get a charlie horse or was on the verge of getting one. It happened like for a while like that.

Now though, I haven't been working out for the last two or three weeks and the feeling has gone away. Maybe i just need to stretch more? or maybe it could be from doing to much incline walking? I want to start using my treadmill again so just wanted to hear any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I know it's been a while, but I have made my way back to the site. I'm actually kinda surprised that my login still works! :D Anyway, during the day while I'm working (I rock a desk job!), I don't prefer the taste of water, so I drink a 32oz bottle of Powerade Zero every day. Now, when I get home, during my workout and after my recovery shake post workout, I drink quite a bit of water. Just wanted to get your collective opinion on whether it might be doing more harm than good. Thoughts?
