Alright, all you runners, I have a question for you. I got a little carried away on my leg workout the other day.

Good music on mp3 + good nutrition+ cute guy watching me at the gym= Me not being able to walk 2 days later.

So I did all of the cooling down, stretching and walking and I still can't sit down to go pee! And I am supposed to run tomorrow. What should I do? Are there any tricks to make my legs feel better? Should I just suffer through it? Or should I wait another day until they feel better? What should I do????

Try rolling your legs out, some dynamic stretching with long holds, and elevate your legs for a few minutes while watching tv tonight. Sometimes the best way to get rid of the "junk" in your legs (at least for me) is to do a regeneration/recovery run for like 20-30 minutes at a slow pace (staying in zone 1-low zone 2). This really helps if you do a tough workout in the morning and your legs feel mangled by the evening a quick regeneration run + ice bath usually does the trick and increases my chances of better recovery. If you feel like there is no chance you can or should be running then don't...no need to give yourself an unnecessary injury. Hope this helps...good luck!

I used to find that even if my legs were too sore to walk from a workout, I was still able to run - and afterward the soreness was usually less severe.

In fact I ran my fastest 5k on a day when I could barely bend my knees because the muscles were so sore from a workout the day before.

Stretching, adequate water intake, massage (or rolling), and active recovery (low intensity biking, jogging, etc) will do wonders.

Good points from everyone. I would only cut out the run if you get out there and feel you are running poorly, like using bad form. Otherwise you will probably feel better once you get going.

Well, I went for a light jog yesterday and rolled the crap out of my legs. I'm going when my husband get home from work around 5. I plan on going 8.5. I'll let you know how it goes!

The run went as planned. It sucked for the first mile but after that it was smooth sailing. Not my best run and not my worst. Thanks for all the great advice!

Sorry I'm too late to chime in here but better late then never right?

Ice baths work wonders, seriously they are the only way I can run for 4 hours and then hit a 4-6 hour bike ride the next day. You'll need to fill your tub up with cold water and at the end dump in 3-4 bags of ice, somewhere around 27-36lbs, sit in it for 10-15 minutes. Guarantee it will help

As others have stated rolling worked great. If you don't have a foam roller or "stick" you can use a rolling pin. My wooden one works great and even better is my marble one, but you have to be careful with marble you could press too hard and bruise yourself like I did :(

Doing an easy spin on the bike will usually help as well. Recovery spins get your legs moving and new blood flowing without taxing the hell out of you.
