thinking of organizing a bench press challenge for this board since i've done it for a few other forums that i'm a member of..

it won't be a press for reps or most you can push..but for this board we could make it a percentage challenge...

each member comes in and opens with their current bench press max with a video.. showing the plates and stating their name on the board and doing one full rep... touch and go is allowed... belt and wrist wraps only. Rep much be fully locked out and touch the chest at the bottom. At any time if you use a spotter that touch the bar after the lift off the lift is no good...

if you guys think this is doable..i'll be glad to put up some prizes..

you open with your current max bench.. and in a month's time see how far you've progressed..and the person who's got the highest percentage OVER their bodyweight wins.

ideas, thoughts, comments?

sounds cool. I have torn cartilage in my chest so BB bench is out of the question for me. I can do dumb bell though but I'd be at a major disadvantage :|

yeah..it's gotta be an actual bench press... and this is why i wanted comments.. we could do a percentage GAINED on the bench press in 4 weeks..

BUT... if all applicants are in agreement and an interested party cant perform an actual bench press but can use dumbbells TO THE CHEST AND TO FULL LOCK OUT WITHOUT SOMEONE TOUCHING THEIR ELBOWS TO ASSIST... i'm fine with it. It's a tight club here... we can all party in the same VIP! HAHA!

you just might! never know..

i could die tomorrow.. lmao! JK! everyone has a shot at this! I'm so tight up at the top of my numbers right now that I don't think I'll be gaining much in terms of percentage..but i'll damn sure put some **** up! ;)

HAHA well thats the point. I'm pretty much maxed out to what I am capable of... without killing my actual goals. So I wouldnt be able to do the percentage gained. I could do the overall weight to press ratio.

I sure can and will after I'm done cutting, right now I'm not going to pull off a whole lot on a carb depleted diet. You know I'll be down for this!

I'm in!

I'm not really training for strength right now but I'd still do it! I've actually been thinking about this for a while.. but more along the lines of doing 225 for reps. Either way, I'm in.

if we do women..i'm not sure what hte bar would be set at but we could damn sure do a women's division as well.

115? 135 for reps for the women?

Some of us can do 135 but not sure what kind of response you are gonna get. My $.02 115 or 105 might be more realistic...

I'm thinking percentage improvement in 4 weeks is the best way to do it to allow the most people to participate. I know a lot of people will be out if it is 225 for reps, simply because they can't bench 225 yet.

The contest is a great idea, however you decide to do it. Thank you for suggesting it. I'm sure we could provide a FB.net shirt for the winner as well as whatever prizes you have lined up.

If I was in a spell of running less I would do it, but right now since I'm increasing mileage and working my butt off I would fail miserably. :))

It's a great idea!

I'm in if it's repping a certain weight for reps. 1RM is out. It's just not worth another injury at this point.

I aint flat benched in like 2 years. There is a local gym doing a bench contest. Percentage of weight over your body weight, I thought about entering then I remembered that I have never practiced a real comp bench, nor am I strong :(

Would be fun to see what I am capable of doing though.

so as of now....

we're going to do a percentage GAINED over a 6 week period because most people won't gain that much in a month. But 6 weeks should be beyond plenty!

i'll get the rules nad prizes drawn up for an official posting..but that's how we're going to run like aaron said to get the most people in.

My bench sucks... This could actually help. And prizes are always good. I want a new car... I will accept nothing less.
