So our new bikes arrived today (promotion was running to collect code tokens and send in $50 for a new bike, so they're nothing special, but will certainly do the job), and the BF and I want to start cycling to build up fitness and hopefully reduce the BF%. My diet is fairly clean, and he tells me he'll put in more effort once we're actually using the bikes.

The question is, does anyone have any tips or beginners routines I can try? I'd google it, but I'm at work and the company has limited use of a lot of the popular sites (EG, no facebook or myspace, and Yahoo and Google are seriously monitored).

Thanks for any help anyone may be able to offer

I'm a little confused....you have an indoor stationary bike or and outdoor riding bike? How many speeds do you have if it an out door? Biking is a great way to cut fat, fast flats or heavy climbs both do the trick. Are you looking for riding locations? Have you checked out www.mapmyride.com ? It's great, it shows elevation gains and you can map around your hood, the only thing it doesn't show is if the streets are bike friendly.

I've always had the best results with interval training on the bike.

I am a huge fan of cycling indoor and out. Great way to stay in shape and reduce body fat. For indoors, you can get DVD's of cycling through Hawaii, or Vermot etc., etc...makes the time go quicker on an indoor bike. See helpful doc link below...Keep on pedal'n!:)

Thanks for the tips.

The bikes are outdoor, but I can't tell you how many speeds until I pick them up from my mum's tomorrow :)

I haven't been to map my ride, but I have used map my run before, so I'm sure it'll be good.

As for location, Shane lives about 1km from a national park, so I want to try the different tracks in there, and see if they suit or if going on the main road to the next town is more my style
